Preparing To Re-Decorate - Help!!

Ok - so I sold several items of furniture, Hurricane Sandy hit NY, president Obama was re-elected, snowstorm hitting NYC as we speak & we'll be moving next week. With all that said, I've been busting my head thinking about how to decorate the next place!

I LOVE decorating but my husband doesn't understand my passion (he'd say obsession) with what will go with what!!?!? I'm certainly NOT an interior designer, so I'm asking designers or non-designers to pls give some quick input on what you think looks best. We no longer have our white french provincial sofa, it was SOLD. Boo hoo.

However, the show must go on & I'm ready to select a new sofa, this one to be exact from Jayson Home & Garden in a velvet fabric.  I've already purchased the Madeline Weinrib greek key rug in 8x10" you see below & am keeping the Jonathan Adler lamp as well as the white IKEA floating shelves & white leather daybed (I hope). I'm also bringing with us our white lucite coffee table, I think it will make the space appear spacious because it is clear.

The Dilemma: I have no idea what color fabric to choose for the sofa. What do you think would work well with the rug below?? The rug is a blueish color with off-white Greek key around the edges. Based on the pieces you see below, what color would you select for the sofa?? YES, the python benches will be included in the mix & the sofa will also have a set of bolsters on each side of the arms.

Below are some swatches - any of these colors? or something else???

I'd love to hear your thought!

Fashion: Graphic Sweaters

Hi everyone! Jocelyn here with a little style inspiration. I have been eyeing graphic sweaters lately and I'm drawn to their quirkiness. I never really thought I'd want a word or letter plastered across my chest and yet I am falling head over heals for the trend.

They seem rather chic paired with jeans and high heels and ultra cool with black tights and a leather skirt. They're perfect for layering during the cooling fall season while still offering a lot of comfort. Not a bad way to add style to an otherwise loungey piece of clothing.

Bits of My Week

above is the Forbidden fruit my guy made for me....scroll down & you'll see what I'm talking about!

people bringing donations of all kinds for the Hurricane Sandy victims.

This line for the bus went around the corner & around 2 more corners - it was sooo long. Never seen anything like it.

The people down in the Lower East Side had no electricity & no water in their homes. It was HEARTBREAKING....

SENIORS who lived on high floors in apt buildings couldn't get down all the stairs & onto the streets to get water. We went out there with our church to HELP some of these people. We brought food, water, candles & more. Many people were standing in line at fire hydrants waiting to get water so they could bathe. On this particular day they had been WITHOUT WATER & ELECTRICITY for almost 3 days!!

Lychee iced tea

President Obama giving his last speech as a candidate. The president's eyes teared up, it was touching. Fired up!

blue roses!

Taking my art down- getting ready to move mid month!

Below:

Forbidden Fruit - this place is down on MacDougal street here in the city. It is awesome. Those dark chocolate covered with coconut bananas were delicious!

The leather pants I'm wearing are by Adriano Goldschmied, you can buy them here.

Kelly Wearstler

I'm back. It's been a crazy few days here in NYC - we are all literally recovering from Hurricane Sandy still.  email & phone service were off & on - so work at home was a bit challenging at times. However, we are fine (thank God) compared to so many people. I'll write more about my week in my next post

Today I wanted to bring something pretty into the picture. I'm a huge fan of Kelly Wearstler & love her home accessories along with her clothing!

I realize I can't afford a few of her items, but I can still add them to my wishlist right?? ....or share them with you. These are my ALL TIME faves. With the leather pant TREND going on right now, I think Souxsie Faux Leather Pants will be high on my list!

How can you not love her stuff? I mean just look at the bottle opened? Brilliant.

Do you own anything KW??

DIY: Leopard Print Tray

Hi All, Happy Nov 1st! It's Jana here to share a DIY to update your trays for the new Season. With the weather turning a little more crisp & cool I look for simple ways to transition my decor accordingly!

Inspiration for this DIY came from a project I saw on Martha Stewart over the summer. Since my lacquer tray is a mainstay when I entertain, I loved that I finally had a solution to the inevitable sliding of drinks and h'orderves on the glossy surface.

To add an autumnal twist, I decided painting leopard spots on the cork would add the perfect punch of personality.

Materials:
Sponge
Cork (cut to size of your tray base)
Brown & Black Paint
Gloss Varnish

Cut the sponge in various round and oval shapes, add in a few kidney bean shapes as well.

Sponge brown spots on tray - vary the sizes so a larger spot is surrounded by slightly smaller spots.

Sponge black spots around the brown spots. I found pairing 1 black spot to 1 brown, 2 black to 1 brown, 4 black to one brown, and fully encircling the brown dot with black dots created the most natural patterns.

Coat the gloss varnish over entire surface.

Make drinks & treats, add a few flowers and you are set for the perfect Indian Summer afternoon!

Decor: Soft Glamour

Hi everyone! It's Amanda. I was so inspired by Jen's NYC closet awhile back I thought I'd style a room with a soft glamour feel. I'm sure I speak for most when I say, I wish I had a huge walk-in closet!

Lucky for those that do! But if you have that extra space.. what better way to add all your favorite pinks, blush and peach tones in a single dream room! (especially when you don't live alone) It's like the perfect girl cave - only extra chic.
